Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve heard water blasting can wreck decks. Is this safe?
Absolutely — and you’re right to be cautious. Traditional high-pressure water blasting can strip the timber and leave it fuzzy or splintered. That’s why Chemwash uses low-pressure cleaning, combined with a specialised, biodegradable detergent. This method is designed to be completely safe for use on timber, loosening and removing grime without tearing up the wood. The goal is to restore your deck, not destroy it.
Can you actually bring the colour back? Mine’s pretty grey.
Yep, you’d be surprised what’s hiding under that weathered grey or black! Our low-pressure process reveals the natural timber colour again, removing grime and sun-baked dirt. In fact, most decks and fences come up far better than people expect, often very close to their original look.
Will my deck be slippery again after the next rainfall?
Not for a long time. A proper Chemwash clean removes the mould and algae that cause slipperiness, so your deck will be safer as well as cleaner. If you’ve got kids, or you’re hosting people often, we’d recommend a deck clean just for this.
Is it worth getting the deck cleaned before staining or painting?
100%. Pre-stain cleaning is one of the biggest reasons people book a deck or fence clean. Paint and stain stick way better to a properly cleaned surface. If you’re planning to restain, a Chemwash clean helps the finish last longer and look more even.
What about pets and plants around the deck?
No issues there either. Our biodegradable detergents are designed to be completely safe around pets, plants, and people. We rinse as we go and avoid any overspray. As a precaution though, we do suggest keeping pets inside, just so they don’t get in the way of the work. We’ll let you know when it’s fine for them to head back outside.
How much is deck or fence cleaning?
Every property, deck and fence is different. This includes size, condition, and access, so pricing isn’t one-size-fits-all. However, our quotes are free, quick, and no-pressure. You might find it’s even more affordable than you expected.
